From 23 March 2024, the Australian Department of Home Affairs no longer requires a GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) statement for Student Visa (Subclass 500) applications. Instead, a new assessment called the GS – Genuine Student test will apply.
For applicants who lodged their Subclass 500 visa before 23 March 2024, the previous GTE requirement still applies.
The new GS criteria focus on assessing the applicant’s genuine intention to study, based on the following factors:
Details of the applicant’s family/economic background, cultural level, and work experience
Explanation for choosing the course in Australia and the benefits of undertaking this program
If the applicant previously studied in Australia, they must provide details of their past study
Applicants currently in Australia on a non-student visa must explain why they wish to switch to a Student Visa
Any other relevant information the applicant wishes to include in support of their application
